THE President of Somalia, Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, has commended President Yoweri Museveni for his strong leadership and decisiveness in dealing with terrorism, especially his decision to deploy troops to Somalia.

President Sharif Ahmed, who met President Museveni at the State Lodge in Masaka on Friday, also condemned the July 11 bomb attacks in Kampala.
“We need strong leadership like that of President Museveni to stop such acts.

These people are not representing Muslims or the people of Somalia and we are ready to defeat them. The people of Uganda are our brothers,” he said.

According a statement from State House, the two leaders discussed bilateral and security issues, before meeting interdenominational religious leaders.

Details of the talks last evening remained scanty, but as the Somalis headed to Kampala, Abdirashid Hashi, the director of information affairs of Villa Somalia, the presidential palace, told reporters in Mogadishu that discussions would include matters relating to Somalia security and governance.

Museveni urged religious leaders to work together to unite the people and to vote for leaders in the forthcoming elections who will support government programmes to promote development.
The leaders commended the President for his efforts in fighting poverty and ensuring peace and development.

The Speaker of Parliament, Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi, commended Museveni for initiating the meeting of religious leaders, which he said symbolised unity.
